Abe Reid & Shelia Carlisle (late 70's)

Statesville, NC Ourdoor Festival

In the early 70's Shelia was the director of

The Covenant Child Developement Center in

Statesville, N.C.  Abe was one of her students .  She played blues for Abe in her office when he would wait for Candy, his mom to pick him up.  Abe also has a very talented musician father, Johnny Reid and and extremely talented musician uncle, Jim Reid.  In the beginning of the 70's, when Shelia lived near Love Valley, N.C. (old hippy stomping grounds of the Allman Brothers) the Reids among other talented bluesgrass musicans would gather at The dairy farm she lived on and play old time bluegrass music.  They formed a band, "The Flatrock Flyers" and won 3rd place in the World Fiddlers Convention in 1971(?).  At that time Shelia played spoons, upright bass and sung a lot of backup behind Abe's talented uncle, Jim Reid.

The Flatrock Flyers played with Tommy Faile.

Abe grew up to be a W.C. Handy Award Winner in the Blues in the 1998.
